The mixed dinner on Saturday 11th October 2014 was a great success in terms of

the décor by Pam Benny of Labours of Love, the entertainment (provided by Eric – Music to my Ears vocalist and DJ), the menu (provided by Lyn Harris and Homestead Catering Service) and the programme.

Many people spoke to, emailed or rang us to say what a wonderful evening they had, enjoying the ambience, the socializing, the music and the fun. Two of the highlights of the night were the Trevor Prescott Freemasons’ Memorial Scholarships presented to four recipients and the auction held to raise money for The Christmas Hamper Appeal.

The Trevor Prescott Freemasons’ Memorial Scholarship recipients were announced by Craig Bissland (Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee) and were presented with their scholarships by the Grand Master (Robert Parsons). The recipients were as follows:-

  • Ms. Mariea Bosco - $5,000 -Travel Grant – for diabetes research in the UK and California, USA
  • Dr. Ashleigh Smith - $4,000 - Travel Grant – International Brain Stimulation Conference, Singapore
  • Dr. Darling Rojas-Canales - $12,500 - Travel Grant – training in human islets, Chicago, USA
  • Dr. Ian Johnson - $10,500 - Travel Grant – prostate cancer diagnostic testing techniques, Dublin, Ireland

The auction raised $720 towards  the Christmas Hamper Appeal. A BIG thank you to the following people who donated the auction items:-

  • Archie Moss (2 original paintings)
  • Harry Crook (original painting)
  • Len Miller and De Lisio Wines (set of 6 wines)
  • Peter Crispe (wooden “Lazy Susan”)
  • Peter Symons – CEO (2 bottles of Premium Red Wine)

The success of the evening was due to all the above, but equally it was also the presence of so many Freemasons and their wives/partners/family/friends at the dinner. Special thanks to those who attended from the Northern Territory and from the country areas of South Australia, many of whom have loyally supported the mixed dinner for many years, as have indeed many from the metropolitan area.

Also, many thanks to the Grand Lodge CEO, the Grand Secretary, Administration Staff and the caretakers without whose work, success of such a function would not be possible.

Bob Parsons (Grand Master) and Sonja Parsons
